“Having spent most of my life in rural Western Australia, I am committed to working with tenants across the Wheatbelt to ensure that they have safe, secure and affordable housing. I traveled to Perth to study, completing my Bachelor of Laws at the Curtin Law School, before returning to the country to work for the Wheatbelt CLC. As a Tenant Advocate, I believe that stable, secure housing is the foundation that allows households and communities to develop and thrive. I am passionate about ensuring that everyone in the Wheatbelt has access to safe, secure and affordable housing. In my role I aim to empower the vulnerable and disadvantaged in the Wheatbelt through education, advocacy and support. I especially enjoy working with the Indigenous community to achieve equitable and empowering housing outcomes that underpin their access to education and employment.”

We are pleased and excited to announce that WCLC was successful in obtaining a grant from LotteryWest for the purchase of a motor vehicle. This will enable us to extend our outreach program and also increase the regularity of trips. WCLC is hugely indebted to LotteryWest for making this possible. Thank you!! We are pleased and proud to announce that WCLC has received accreditation by the National Associations of Community Legal Centres. WCLC met the 2018 National Standard for quality in legal practice management.

In 2017, the Wheatbelt Community Legal Centre won a grant from the Law Society of Western Australia for the amount of $62,000. The grant funded the first-ever WA project to investigate the use of multi-media technologies and internet platforms in the delivery of community legal education online (CLEO) across the Wheatbelt. Client-lawyer interaction using the 'internet-of-things' is set to go some way towards overcoming the regional and remote tyrannies of distance, time and cost. The second pro bono Wheatbelt Aboriginal Legal Clinic was held in Narrogin on 12-13 June 2018. The clinic was generously sponsored by Sparke Helmore Lawyers. Led by Sparke Helmore's Layla Langridge, a team of 4 lawyers legally assisted some 35 clients over 2 days to complete a Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney and/or Power of Enduring Guardianship. The event was a collaborative partnership between the Wheatbelt Aboriginal community, Kaata-Koorliny Employment and Enterprise Development Aboriginal Corporation (KEEDAC), Sparke Helmore Lawyers and the Wheatbelt Community Legal Centre.

In partnership with Legal Aid WA and the Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health Service (WA Country Health Service), WCLC was pleased to facilitate a legal information clinic on the recent changes to Restraining Orders legislation. State Government to provide community legal centres with almost $1.2 million to compensate for the loss of funding from the Legal Contribution Trust.The Federal Government has announced it will restore funding to the community legal sector.

A pro bono (complimentary) Aboriginal Legal Clinic was generously offered to the Wheatbelt Aboriginal Community by Sparke Helmore Lawyers. Led by Sparke Helmore's Layla Langridge, a team of 4 lawyers legally assisted some 40 clients over 2 days to complete a Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney and/or Power of Enduring Guardianship. The event was a collaborative partnership between the Wheatbelt Aboriginal Community, Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health Service, KEEDAC, Share and Care, Aboriginal Legal Service and the Wheatbelt Community Legal Centre.
